Water crisis in Metro Manila is artificial, Palace says

The water shortage and supply interruptions currently being experienced in almost entire parts of Metro Manila may possibly be “artificial,” Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo said, citing that Angat Dam, where the metro gets 97 percent of its water supply, is still well above the critical level.

Panelo, citing latest reports from Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, blamed inefficiency and mismanagement of the water resource that led to the “water shortage.”

The presidential spokesman also questioned why it is only Manila Water that is facing water supply shortage, while another concessionaire (Maynilad) still has enough water and able to provide its concession areas.

Panelo said that Lorenzana have already informed President Rodrigo Duterte about the situation through a Cabinet chat group.

Nevertheless, Panela said that they are still looking into the “water crisis,” saying that the President has already assigned an official to lead the probe.

Netizens were blaming politics over the supposed water crisis as issues over the construction of the China-funded Kaliwa Dam project arises.
