Every year, Kapamilya fans anticipate the television network’s Christmas tribute. Along with several holiday station ID songs, they also feature heartwarming stories that are fitting for the season of giving. This year, ABS CBN brings its viewers back to where love and kindness begin, the family.
With the mini-series “Family is Love,” the Kapamilya network shows its viewers different stories from inspiring Filipino families. One of which is the Garcia family. Unlike any other, the Garcias are compelled to spend most days of the year apart as the three sons of Milvina Garcia are all enlisted on the army.
The eldest son, John Melvin, serves as a pilot for the Philippine Air Force. Meanwhile, his younger brothers, Gerson and George Bernard, are active members of the Philippine Army. While their love for their country separated them physically, their love for one another keeps them together no matter the distance them.
Of course, although Melvina knows that her sons are only fulfilling their duties as the country’s heroes, she couldn’t help but feel a little bit lonely especially when she realize that it would be a long time before she could hold her children in her arms together. Gerardo, the father, understands that it’s quite difficult for soldiers to take a vacation from their respective jobs.
“Naging fighter na nga ako kasi sa dami ng pinagdaanan ng mga bata, pinapa sa Diyos ko nalang,” Melvina said on her interview. “Kung titignan ko ang kalagayan nila ngayon, successful na rin ako,” Gerardo added.
Fortunately, ABS CBN made sure that Melvina’s 51st birthday would be something unforgettable. Not only did they plan a party for her, they also made sure that all her sons could eat and bond with her on her special day.
While she was being interviewed, her sons were busy preparing for her small party. It was when her sons came in one by one with flowers in hand the she broke down in tears of joy. “Thank you very much at ngauon lang kami nakumpleto,” Melvina exclaimed in happiness.
The Garcia family proves that love grows even when you’re apart from your family. As long as you have faith, everything will turn out well in the end. What do you think about the Garcia family’s story? Share your thoughts in the comments section.
