A lot of babies are born all over the world every day, unfortunately, not all of them have it easy. While some were delivered with no deformities or complications, others had to lead a more complicated condition. One of them is this miracle baby from New Zealand, whose story of survival touched the hearts of many people all over the world.
When Rachael Sibley from New Zealand felt contractions at just 24 weeks, the soon-to-be-mom felt an overwhelming sense of dread. Soon enough, her bad feeling was confirmed when she gave birth to a premature baby girl.
At only 24 weeks, the miracle baby Bella Torkington was minuscule — weighing only 805 grams. When his father, Kyle Torkington, saw his daughter’s condition, he immediately called emergency services. Since the ambulance was still minutes away, he was asked to resuscitate his baby.
“When Bella came out she initially made a bit of a squeak, but then all of a sudden she went all blue in the face and just didn’t make any noise. I had to revive Bella. It needed to happen straight away because any delay of oxygen would cause brain damage.”
Desperate to keep his baby alive, the father cut off the top of his own sock and warmed it in the microwave. He then used this as a small bonnet for baby Bella, who will certainly perish due to the cold.
When the paramedics arrived, they found the miracle baby faintly breathing. As a way to insulate her, they opened a sandwich plastic bag and placed Bella inside.
One of the paramedics, Olivia Burns described Bella as a “fighter:”
“Everything that her parents had done before we got there, is what kept her alive. She survived, and she was so tiny. She was such a fighter, she obviously really wanted to be here, to see everyone.”
Thanks to the efforts of the paramedics and her parents, baby Bella is now a healthy toddler. To raise awareness about their unexpected situation, the family shared their inspirational story with others as well.
