Too often victims of child molestation are too traumatized by the heinous crime, that they simply cannot speak out without reliving those terrible memories. This recent report is proof that victims can learn to be brave and voice their outrage. There are some fearless victims who won’t let their traumatic experience hinder their search for justice. In this recent report, a 15-year-old teenage girl bravely shared her abusive encounter with a 16-year-old male to the authorities.
In a report by GMA‘s “24 Oras,” the victim named Mae (not her real name) recounted the story of how she was abused by a 16-year-old man which occurred under the Edsa-Ortigas flyover. According to her statement, she simply asked help from the suspect to find her friend. However, when they reached the gloomy part of the road, the suspect aggressively took advantage of her.
This is what she said:
“Pag labas po namin bigla niya po ako hinila doon po sa may halamanan.”
She tried to escape but fear overcame her. The suspect threatened to smash her head in with a rock if she continues to resist him.
“Sabi ko po tama na ‘wag niyang ituloy. Tapos parang nagagalit pa sir, gusto niya bagsakan ako ng bato.”
But when find a chance to escape presented itself, she ran directly to the police to seek help. In the end, the suspect was immediately arrested.
PO3 Nennen Barnobal said they planning to press criminal charges against the suspect.
“Sa ngayon, inihahanda na namin na masampahan siya ng Republic Act 8353 (The Anti-Rape Law of 1997). Pero dahil menor de edad din siya, sa ngayon itinurnover muna namin siya sa pangangalaga ng Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).”
