Sometimes, it just takes a single act of kindness and selflessness to turn the day around. When mother Robin Newberger, a resident of Ojai, California, saw her autistic boy approach the garbage collector one day, the mother already had an inkling of what would transpire next.
The five-year-old boy named Daniel Mulligan is a special kid with special interests at heart. Having autism can be pretty tough, but Daniel finds comfort in watching the garbage truck. Every week, the garbage truck will stop at their house to collect an entire week’s worth of trash. Mundane as it is, this routine has become the highlight of Daniel’s week.
Soon enough, even the waste collectors took notice of the autistic boy. Every time they collect the Mulligan family’s garbage, they observed how the five-year-old boy quietly watches them while his mother Robin is nearby. It didn’t take very long until the waste collectors started talking to him and next thing we knew, they were already pals.
A waste collector, in particular, has taken an interest in Daniel. Whenever he passes by their house, Manuel Sanchez always makes it a point to smile and wave at Daniel. The boy is always so happy to see him, so the kindhearted waste collector decided to arrange a little surprise for him.
One Monday morning, Manuel went out of his truck and greeted the boy as usual. That day, the mother was also outside keeping an eye on her son. Manuel approached her and asked permission if he can give a little present for Daniel.
Out of nowhere, he held a large box and gave it to Daniel. Unbeknownst to the boy, the big box contains his most favorite thing in the world: a toy! This is not just any other toy, but it is a miniature garbage truck. Daniel used to have one, but it broke. After knowing about this, Manuel decided to buy him one.
The money he used came out of his own pocket. When the company he works for took notice of the surprise, they decided to reward him with a restaurant gift card. This heartwarming story just proved that the kindness you give will eventually find its way back to you.
