Depression is a very serious mental health issue that can affect anyone – from regular people to the wealthy. Not only does it affect someone mentally, but it also affects a person physically. With the help of proper treatment and a good support system, a depressed person can work through their struggles. But in the end, a person suffering from depression must be willing to seek help if they want to get better.
A year ago, a 16-year-old girl walked into Capri Waterloo Salon where student hairdresser Kayley Olsson was working. The teenager walked in with matted hair and said she wanted to cut it all off for she could not bear to suffer trying to untangle it with a comb.
Kayley says the teenager had depression for a few years now, causing her to neglect herself. She couldn’t bear to shave off the girl’s hair so she decided to fix it; wanting the teenager to feel better about herself. It wasn’t going to be easy, untangling all of the clumped hair, but the hairdresser vowed to make the teenager’s hair pretty again.
“She got to the point where she felt so down and so worthless she couldn’t even brush her hair. She told me she only got up to use the restroom.” Kayley said.
The reason why the teenager finally got up to get a fix is because she was scheduled to have her school picture taken before school started.
The whole hair makeover took the hairdresser 13 hours over two days. It was a long and hard process but the result was amazing. Not only did it clean up the teenager’s look, it also helped her rise from the slump she was in. A lot of netizens praised Kayley for helping the teenager out, and some of them started throwing negative comments at the girl’s parents.
The world needs more people like Kayley Olsson. With depression being so rampant these days, we need supportive people who understand and who are willing to help a tortured soul.
