Taxi scams happen often in Manila, Philippines. You know you’re being scammed when the taxi driver does not turn the meter on or asks for fixed rates. This is the exact words said by Filipino-American vlogger Haley Dasovich when she caught a taxi driver red-handed when he tried to take advantage of her.
In her vlog, the 28-year-old social media influencer documented her bad experience riding a taxi. Moments later after getting inside the taxi, there was a heated debate between the two. As seen in the video, the scamming taxi driver refused to start the meter and explained why he decided to charge her with a flat rate.
This is what she wrote in her post:
“I just arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport, exhausted from my 13-hour flight from San Francisco. The flight arrived at 4am and it took a while to retrieve 3 enormous suitcases from baggage claim (daming pasalubong, alam mo yan!)”
According to Haley Dasovich, she usually gets out of a taxi when she feels that there is something wrong. However, she bravely faced this scammer of a taxi driver to expose his fraudulent activity.
“I hopped into a taxi at 6am at the start of Manila’s crazy traffic rush hour. When I know I’m being scammed, which has happened one too many times, normally I get out of the taxi and deal with being left on the side of the road to find another one.”
“This time I was too tired and had too many suitcases. Unfortunately, this has happened one too many times to me and so many others I know. Just another day in the taxi diaries.”
