Nonong de Andres a.k.a. “Bangkay” passes on at 71

Another showbiz personality bids farewell as Nonong de Andres a.k.a “Bangkay” took his final breath morning of November 6. As of writing, there is no update behind the actor’s passing.  Through Facebook, Powee Capino and Philippine Star informed the public that the veteran actor departed at the age of 71. On social media, Powee wrote:

“Please pray for the eternal repose of the soul of my Tito Nonong who (had gone) early this moring. He is more popularly known as “Bangkay” in horror movies and “Bangky” in Forevermore. This is aside from the hundreds of movies and TV appearances he was in throughout his acting career. He was 71.”

In an article of ABS-CBN, Nonong shared how his showbiz career began. According to him, he was working as a layout artist for RVQ Productions established by the late king of comedy, Dolphy. Apparently, he was chosen to be one of the extras in Dolphy’s film.

“Ayaw ko mag-artista, katuwaan lang yun eh. May kumuha nang may kumuha.”

He shared how he didn’t have any background on acting but noticed how the Philippine audience liked his natural portrayal of the roles handed to him. According to him, people used to call him Dr. KM-Tayan but over time, they started calling him Bangkay.

He has become part of more than 100 movies aside from his many TV appearances. In the same interview, he revealed that his only idol is the man who opened his doors to acting.

“Si Dolphy. Magaling. Walang katulad si Dolphy, all-around, versatile actor yun. Lahat nagagampanan.”

From an accidental actor, he was able to leave a legacy in both film and TV industry. He will always be remembered as Bangkay and Bangky. May he rest in peace together with his idol, the king of comedy.
