Alex Gonzaga is being put on the hot seat, yet again.
Currently in Japan, the Kapamilya actress took to her Instagram account yesterday, May 20, to share a photo of her and her mom in the streets of Osaka. Written in the caption was a reference to a classic Filipino punchline about the East Asian country.
“Ang sabi nga nila: Japan, Japan sagot sa kahirapan! #LinkinmyBio to see our Japan adventures and mommy Pinty’s beast mode sa kimono [sic]”
However, there seems to be a reason why we haven’t heard about this joke for a long while. Shortly after her Instagram post was shared online, Alex incited a public backlash among netizens.

According to the netizens, the joke — although not original — was done in poor taste, and that she should’ve known better than to use it.
One critic even went as far as calling her ‘taklesa‘ and ‘OA’. Alex, on her part, was quick to react to the comment with her usual sarcasm.
On the other hand, the 30-year-old star’s response to another critic bringing Mommy Pinty into the picture was written in a calmer tone.

Meanwhile, hundreds of fans and followers were quick to side with Alex. For them, critics shouldn’t have made a big deal out of a catchphrase that has been around since the 80s.
As of press time, Alex has yet to give her official statement in light of the issue.
